Effie Hill was born in Cyprus but grew up in South Africa. She attended college in the United States, earning a B.A. in French Translation and Business and an M.A. in French Literature. She taught at Northern Illinois University and then as professor of French at Waubonsee Community College Illinois for several years.
Other work experience includes freelance translator and tutor. In addition, Effie lived in France for four years with her husband and children. She currently homeschools two of her children.
Effie believes in the scientific and social advantages of second language acquisition. Many studies have shown the benefits to the brain, such as improvement in memory and in the ability to focus. In addition, language opens up a world that would otherwise have been closed to us in terms of movies, books, and relationships.
